“We Are Not Just a Restaurant” - BlackHorn Launches a New Initiative to Give Back to the Local Community

By Isabel Gallacher

Since 2013, BlackHorn has been offering the community of St Andrews tasty, budget-friendly food that only uses beef from local farmers. Having cultivated a community of loyal locals, this year, the restaurant has launched a new initiative to raise money for Storehouse: a local foodbank supporting those in need through the means of drop-in sessions, drink vouchers and community events. The foodbank is also providing the Fife community with access to Clothesline: a clothing bank offering a variety of clothing to those who are facing hardships

BlackHorn invites customers to make a financial donation to Storehouse and in turn receive an apron previously worn by a staff member of St Andrews’ premier burger restaurant. Having realised that the aprons were no longer suitable for the workplace but would be fully functional for BlackHorn’s customers, owner Justin Hughes saw an opportunity to turn them into something that benefits the local community while offering the restaurant’s frequenters a sentimental keepsake.

As Storehouse highlights, anyone can find themselves in times of difficulty. For this reason, it is essential that community support projects exist. BlackHorn’s fundraising efforts demonstrate the necessity for collaboration and connection within the local community.

If you are able to donate, please consider dropping into BlackHorn and contributing to this initiative. By supporting organisations such as Storehouse, we, as a community, can ensure that those who are struggling have a compassionate group of people to turn to for support.
